Product detailed description
This yellow uranium glass tall vase was produced in Bohemia from original period molds created by H. Hoffmann around 1930, during the height of the Art Deco movement. Its elongated proportions emphasize vertical rhythm and enhance the sculptural complexity of the relief decoration.
The surface features a continuous grape harvest scene with stylized nymph figures intertwined among vine branches and grape clusters. Each figure is rendered in a distinct pose, creating movement and narrative flow around the circumference of the vase. The fusion of organic vine motifs with structured geometric form reflects strong French Art Deco influence. Hoffmann’s sculptural treatment of the human figure shows parallels to the work of René Lalique, particularly in the combination of sensual modeling and ornamental naturalism, while remaining distinctly Bohemian in execution.
Made of yellow uranium glass, commonly referred to as vaseline glass, the vase exhibits vivid green fluorescence under UV light, confirming its uranium glass composition. The height of the form enhances the vertical continuity of the grape harvest scene, giving the piece a commanding and architectural presence within a serious Art Deco collection.
