Product detailed description
This hood ornament was produced in Bohemia from original period molds created by H. Hoffmann around 1930. It represents the interwar period when sculptural hood ornaments for vintage cars functioned not only as decorative elements but also as symbolic sculptural forms inspired by historic and exotic motifs.
The stylized pharaoh head reflects the influence of Egyptian Revival aesthetics within Art Deco design, characterized by clean lines, symmetry, and a sense of monumentality. Hoffmann’s sculptural approach shows clear inspiration from the work of René Lalique, particularly in the refined facial modeling, streamlined geometry, and the integration of sculptural form with aerodynamic automotive design, while remaining distinctly Bohemian in execution.
Made of yellow uranium glass, the surface has a satin matte finish and glows green under ultraviolet light, confirming its uranium glass composition. This example is mounted on a black glass base, which enhances contrast, stability, and overall presentation. Originally intended as a car hood ornament and car mascot, today the Pharaoh Head model is highly sought after as a collectible Art Deco automotive sculpture and display piece.
